"During the historic expedition that he co-led, Meriwether Lewis recorded in his journal seeing 'a buffalo picker, a beautiful bird.' Now known as cowbirds, these birds can be quite beautiful when the sun catches their feathers just right.
“This bison in the Biscuit Basin area of Yellowstone was particularly photogenic, seeming to enjoy posing for my camera. Just as he aligned perfectly with the Firehole River and the banks of unmistakable Yellowstone soil behind him, this cowbird landed on his back—with the sun illuminating the bluish sheen of his feathers. This was one of those special moments when everything aligned for an incredible moment in time, just as those months and years did for Lewis & Clark.
“I’m thankful to have witnessed these beautiful creatures, as few captures in my gallery express the beauty of Yellowstone more than this one.”
SIGNATURE EDITION
"The mark of the maker—the maker's signature—is visible everywhere if we're willing to open our eyes.
"However, this signature is more prevalent and discernible within some moments than others. My Signature Editions are comprised of my captures of these moments, that I feel privileged to share, as they are surely quite powerful within the endeavor of proving that life doesn't merely exist, but that it is created."
