“Lake Powell (Inlet Beach, Florida) is one of fifteen coastal dune lakes along the 30A corridor, and contends to be the largest coastal dune lake on earth.
“The existence of this lake is exceedingly rare; coastal dune lakes are one of the rarest ecosystems on our planet. However, on this day, the rarity was enhanced with the presence of inflow: high tides combined with heavy rains resulted in a brackish encounter of the Gulf with the lake, and the adored emerald waters of this region flowed into Lake Powell.
“This was an amazing sight, but observing this great egret appearing to also appreciate the moment (and the bait fish being pulled in—look closely) was the highlight for me.”
