“Each time I view this capture, I believe I have a different immediate response. The pretty blue eggs are certainly eye-catching, and when combined with the focus being paid to the nest, one can easily feel the anticipation of the coming egret chicks.
“Sometimes, however, the breeding plumage feathers gather my attention. Once viewed as trophies during the days of Everglades destruction, fortunately these birds and their beautiful plumage are now protected from such atrocities.
“Yet another fascinating subject of this capture is the background. If one views carefully, you can see another egret sitting on a nest beyond a few tree limbs. This tree, and those around it, are acting as a rookery for these egrets. Rookeries are typically surrounded by water, as this one is, which provides enhanced protection from potential nest robbers.
“There is always more to see and learn when out in Creation, and this capture of an egret nest is truly a testament to that fact.”
