One of my favorite pieces is of a pilgrim, having just stepped foot on land after his voyage on the Mayflower, looking above to heaven for blessings and guidance on what would be one of the most courageous and consequential actions ever taken by a human.
"When I was watching this barred owl in a swamp in southern Florida, it calmly turned its head and gazed directly into the warm morning sun. At that moment, I instantly thought of the aforementioned pilgrim, making an appeal to heaven."
